Mindfulness based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) 8-weeks

Psychology@thecoast offers mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT) courses for people living in The North East of England. This is a course for people who would like to practice mindfulness and who are interested in how to take best care of themselves. The course can help you to be more aware of your mode of mind and can help you in accepting yourself just as you are. People can benefit from mindfulness whether they have a specific problem or not. We all have times in our lives when we experience difficulty, stress and struggle; and for some of us this is our daily experience.  

The MBCT programme has been developed to follow a structure which includes coming to a class once a week for 2 hours throughout the course. During the course you have the benefit of being able to discuss with the teacher how the meditation practice is going. It is this combination of class-led and home-based meditation practice that has been proven to make a difference in people’s life. At the moment there are not many classes available in the healthcare system in the North East. 

Everybody from the age of 18 can in principle take part after an intake conversation in which we will discuss how MBCT could be beneficial in your life and how you have dealt with life’s challenges. This is a course for everyone who likes to experience the practice of mindfulness and is prepared to be in a group. There is also the possibility to hire me to do a mindfulness course in the workplace for your staff. On an individual level I can recommend the book:  The Mindful Way Workbook: An 8-Week Program to Free Yourself from Depression and Emotional Distress by John Teasdale, Mark Williams & Zindel Segal and to purchase audio-files. Or to read the book: Mindfulness: a practical guide to finding peace in a frantic world by Williams A., Penman D., & Williams M.

The next course will take place in Newcastle and the group size will be no more than 6 participants. Sessions last 2 hours and there are 8 sessions in total. Costs are £250,- for the 8 sessions (limited conc. available), this includes 8 sessions, voice-recordings (practices), handouts, individual support, and intake. Throughout the year there will be opportunities to practice mindfulness for a full day with others who finished the 8 week course.
